There is a lot of confusion in churches and amongst Christians these days, especially when it comes to foundational doctrines of the Bible. Why is this so, you may ask. I believe it is for a number of reasons.
- Increasingly, there is false and “New Age” teaching that has crept into the Church because of the lack of good teaching on sound doctrines as clearly laid out in Scripture. This booklet lists and looks into some of this false teaching, and sheds some light on where various current and/or “fashionable” or “trendy” theories are going wrong. The main objective of this booklet is to give some plain and simple explanations on several major doctrines that will hopefully help you in your Christian walk and alert you to the many false teachings that are infiltrating the Church.
- Some pastors don’t believe certain doctrines are relevant for us today, or they don’t want to upset their congregations by teaching the unadulterated Word of God. What many don’t realise is that sound Scripture-based doctrine is the very foundation of our Christian beliefs and without it we cannot understand or know who God is and how we fit into His plans for mankind.
- Many pastors don’t teach sound doctrine, as they don’t know or understand it themselves, and you can’t teach what you don’t know or understand.
- People don’t want to hear sound teaching anymore. This is hard to hear, and might even offend some, but it is true, and it is a prophesied sign of the End of the Age. In Timothy 4: 3-4 we are warned, “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers, and they will turn their ears away from the truth.”
We have arrived at the End of the Age, and we will soon see the return of the Christ. We need to stay very alert to the sometimes extremely subtle changes to the Scriptural doctrines contained God’s Word, and add nothing to them, nor take anything away, to stay on firm ground.
This booklet outlines many of the most common erroneous teachings which are gaining ground with many churches today. It is not meant to be an extensive teaching on these doctrines, but simple outlines for you to be alerted to them, and to study them further for yourself if you wish. Be warned that you may even find listed here teachings you have been taught, and accepted in trust as truth. Please don’t take offence – this booklet is meant to be a light to blinded eyes, and a tool to set people free from false doctrines. With time fast running out, it is more important than ever that we are firmly established and grounded in the accurate and perfect Word of God, and only in the Word of God, in all its fullness and glory.
As with each of my publications, don’t just accept my word (or anyone else’s) as truth, but check out what is said for yourself. Be a good Berean, as described in Scripture, in Acts 17: 11, “Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what the Apostle Paul said was true.”
The foundational doctrines of Scripture are also set out in an easy to understand and study format. This booklet can be used for personal study and reading, or in a group setting.
